When I Realized That The Time Has Come…

All of a sudden, my dad called me while I was at work. He was worried and nervous, asked me to come home to check mom. I hurriedly reached home and considering her severe stomach ache and fever, we got her admitted to a nearby hospital. She was not in her senses when we got her to the hospital. Doctors did all the blood work and found a significant size of stone in her kidney and due to her high diabetes, the stone aggravated infection in her kidneys. Along with the kidneys, her liver also got affected.

It was in April end of 2017 when my mother falls sick. In January 2017, she complained about passing bloodstains with her urine to me. I started searching on the internet and found that with diabetic senior citizen women complains about it quite often. I discussed the same with my mom and dad and we thought everything is fine. Blood tests didn\’t show a matter of concern for us. But just in 4 months, things turned to such a bad phase.
I\’m not blaming my mother, but most of the mothers have this habit of hiding their illness or not discussing their physical ailments with their husbands or other family members. If discussed at the right time with the right people, you can come out of the issues faster.

Thankfully, my mother was in capable hands, and the doctors did their best for the next 1 week to make my mother feel better. Two rounds of surgeries she had gone through, first were about kidney stent implants and the second was for kidney stent removal. Everything went well, and in the next 2 months, my mother was on her feet. The woman who was not in her senses when we got her to the hospital, was walking and doing small work at home after 2 months.

Diabetes in women is one of the deadly diseases. Since its a lifestyle disease, many people don\’t take it seriously. I also have diabetes and when last year I read that a vegan diet can reverse diabetes, I was completely out of my mind. Doctors strictly told my mother to go completely off the animal protein. Her digestive system was not so strong to help. We kept her on a strict plant-based protein diet. Slowly and gradually she was on the road to recovery. Those were the months when I realized that how our body needs plant-based food. I also realized that I should also go vegan. Slowly I cut down my animal protein intake and in October 2019, I completely turned vegan and I think so far this is the best decision I have ever made.
