Vegan Leather: Is this the new leather???

I am sure there are millions of people on earth, who love to use leather items. Leather wallets, bags, belts, shoes and clothes were always in vogue. But now the world is changing. These leather items are made from animal skin. To create such items animals pass through a lot of cruelty and sometimes they die as well due to a high level of cruelty. Many animal species are getting extinct due to this.

So what is the alternative available now? Should we stop using leather items? Should we compromise in our signature style statement? Some researchers and fashion designers are bringing the change. They are coming up with different ways to create items which are not made of animal skin, but will give you the feeling of leather. A London-based die-making company, Oliver Co. is creating leather with apple waste and wood. PETA says, even leather can be made from pineapple leaves, cork, other fruit waste and recyclable plastics.

The significant benefits of using vegan leather items are as follows:

  • Faux leather or let\’s say vegan leather costs comparatively less than the original leather items.
  • It\’s very much affordable and resembles just like normal leather.
  • Faux leather is completely cruelty-free leather, that means animals don\’t need to go through cruel process for testing and making.
  • Vegan leather materials are low maintenance products compared to real ones.
  • They are mainly stain-free and does not fade away after prolong use.
  • Faux leathers are generally man-made leather, so they are available in various colour shades and texture.
  • Last but not the least, it doesn\’t impact the environment.

Brands like, Zara, Corkor, RoandCo., Pixiemood, Veggani and Urbanexpressions are revolutionising the leather world. Thes are the brands, which has launched their faux leather items in various ways and they completely look stylish. People won\’t be able to figure out that these are not original leather.

Oliver Co. and some other brands are closely working with many European suppliers to maintain a high standard of ethics and trying to be loyal towards the environment. These brands are also trying to be transparent for their customers as they mention clearly what material they use and how do they create their designs. Hence, buyers will know what they are looking at and how these faux leathers are going to help their buying desire. So instead of punishing the animals, let\’s just try to find more environment friendly options to stay in style. Be classy but don\’t be cruel towards innocent animals.
