10 travel destinations lost the charm for climate change

Whoever I came across in my life, most of them mentioned traveling as one of their hobbies. Traveling is really fun when you visit to good places and explore the rich culture of that place. In every continent, we have various countries with amazing food, language and deep history.

Over the period of years, many popular travel destinations lost its charm due to climate change. The environmental changes made the places polluted and populated. From the ice capped peaks of the Mount Everest to the beautiful sandy beaches of Madagascar, everyone wants to feel the ecstatic beauty of these places. But as the ice capped mountain peaks are melting and the tectonic plates under the ocean bed is creating havoc, tourists are somewhat scared now.

Here are top 10 places which is losing its charm and they are welcoming less tourists now.

  • The Great Barrier Reef (Australia) is the largest coral reef of the world and tourists from all over the world visit there to witness aquatic magic. As per an aerial survey conducted in 2020 by The Great Barrier Reef Foundation, almost 60% of the coral reefs died and the 100% death of the coral reef is not far away.
  • Venice (Italy) is really hard to avoid the antiquated beauty of this place. The canals and the gondolas are a constant call out there. But the roads are getting crowded with each passing day. Some parts of the city is low lying and is slowly going under the water. In 2017, well-know Italian artist Lorenzo Quinn created a statue which is extending hand out of the Grand Canal to seek help from sinking.
  • The Amazon covers a huge area of South America and is the largest rainforest in the world. But in the past few years, the temperature of the Amazon has gone up. The forest is dying due to the wildfires, extreme drought in some of the areas are killing the flora and fauna of those areas. The globe trotters can notice the colourful varieties of frogs and toads with rare species of trees and shrubs which cannot be found in other parts of the world.Brazil’s National Institute of Space Research found that more than 74,000 wildfires occurred in 2019 in Amazon which was about 85% more than the last year.
  • Maldives is truly considered as one of the most popular tourist destinations for the beach lovers. Its just 1.3 meters above the sea leaves, which makes this island country as the lowest lying country in the world. UN identified that there’s a huge chance of getting this island vanished in next few decades. As the tourists keep traveling there, the pollution is increasing in leaps and bounce and that’s not helping the island in any way except the economic status.
  • Mumbai (India) is the home for more than 20 million people which makes it as one of the most populated cities in the world. According to National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) the level of the sea water is increasing by 2 inches every year and probably by 2050, Mumbai can go under the sea. This is also one of the reasons that, why do we see frequent floods in Mumbai.
  • The Alps (Europe) have been attracting tourists from all over the world for decades. The ski lovers find it as a heaven made on earth to them. Time reported that, in 2017 the Alps had 38 days winter shorter than what it was in 1960s. The snow is slowly melting, that’s why the skiers aren’t getting that longer winter season to enjoy winter sports over there. The tourists have to go upto 10,000 feet to see the snow on the mountains.
  • Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) is another popular tourist destination in South American continent. After the summer Olympics of 2016 in Rio, the popularity of the city has gone up. The weather experts are opining that, the way temperature is increasing, Rio is going to be under the sea by 2100. Recently, Brazil government partnered with NASA on detecting better environmental advice to protect Rio and other coastline places.
  • Osaka (Japan) is also known as “Manchester of Japan” and is the biggest commercial city in Japan. The spectacular architecture of the city attracts more tourists to let them live a happening city life in Japan. As the city is another island city, the risk of sinking is increasing. The city is already susceptible to typhoons and other oceanic disasters.
  • Madagascar is another beautiful island country located in the south of African continent, attracts tourists for witnessing the plethora of wild flora and fauna. People come to see lemurs, fossa and the world’s smallest known chameleon. The sea water levels are rising, that’s why the forests are sinking. It’s a huge threat to the local population and the animals.
  • Napa Valley (California, USA) is famous for the beautiful wineries. The first commercial winery was founded in Napa Valley in 1859, since then it has been a heaven to the wine lovers. Presently, it’s the home for more than 1000 commercial wine manufacturers. Most of the wineries are located on the foothill region of Mount Saint Helena. As the temperature is rising, the wine manufacturers are getting concerned. The rising temperature is disrupting the grapes production, thus lowering down the wine production.

These are some of the places, I found while researching. But this is the situation more or less in all over the world. Everywhere, the temperature is rising. The COP28 conference is going to take place very soon. The environment treaties are being signed and will be signed in the future. But the change takes time to appear. The results take time too. But its still not too late to make our planet a happy place to live.
