5 tips to lead a sustainable life

In simple language, sustainable living is a unique lifestyle when individuals use minimum natural resources of the planet and opt to live the simplest life. We use lot of things which creates lot of waste for the planet and aren’t environment friendly. Creating a equitable socio-economic and habitable place for yourself and your family is a very minimalist approach towards life. In this post, we are going to look into 5 tips to have a sustainable and habitable life without any stress.

  • Saving drinking water is one of those options which can be controlled pretty easily. I have noticed it at many households that, people keep the taps running in the kitchens while they are applying dishwasher on the dishes. Unnecessarily, people keep the water running in the bathrooms too. While washing clothes or doing other household stuffs, people keep the water usage in limit and save it.
  • Reduce the usage of paper and plastics, wherever you can. Plastics of single usage are anyway bad for the environment, so it’s advised to use cloth bags while going to the market for shopping. Try not to tear down the pages from the notebooks or throw them here and there. Rather, you can dispose things by segregating them into dry and wet waste, that will help while recycling.
  • Control the energy usage when it’s not required. Switch off the lights at home during the daytime or when you are not in the room. This will eventually drop your electricity bills too. Also try to use electrical appliances when its highly required.
  • While I am commuting on the city roads, I have seen many people driving to their respective offices all alone. Try the carpooling method, or commute by public transport. In India, some companies offer transport facilities. Trying this method can also reduce the carbon emission in the city. Travelling my metro/tube rails are also good to reduce pollution.
  • Last but not the least for sure is fashion. Fashion is that industry which is constantly trying their best to minimise the carbon emissions. Atacama Desert is regarded as the “graveyard of fashion industry”. All the fast fashion collection goes into that desert. While manufacturing the new collection, chemicals and colours are being mixed with the water. The fashion brands dispose those chemicals and water into the local water bodies. It not only leads to the water pollution, but at times, fish in those water bodies were also found dead. Living a sustainable life sounds pretty dreamy and tough. But believe me when I say, you can try doing. No one is asking you to implement many sustainable methods. At least, you could try implementing one or two methods and can start bringing the change. Be the change for yourself first, that will eventually lead to the change for others. Be the inspiration for yourself, then inspire others.
