Do you all know that the oceans are dying?

Sounds bizarre to you? Yes, it’s true. The oceans all over the planet are dying. We have studied since our childhood days, that oceans are covering almost 70% of our planet and the rest 30% are covered by land mass where all the continents and islands are located. Presently, these oceans are the home for more than 33,000 species of fish. But the marine biologists and the rest of the human society are overlooking the existence and the ecological imbalance of these fish underwater.

Fishy story

“We are the village, and they are the kingdom”. This is the new concept Plant Based News came up with for the protection of the fish all over the world. The number of fishes are more than the collective number of mammals, amphibians and reptiles living on earth. The under water world is more colourful than what we see on the land. We fall for the optical illusion but we barely think of saving the under water ecology.

Why do we need oceans?

Water is the necessity for all the living organisms but have you ever thought that why do we need oceans. Why are we dependent so much on the oceans? There are a few vital reasons which we will be discussing here.

1. We breathe the fresh air coming from the oceans. The composition of water is H2O, so a certain level of oxygen is coming from the ocean water.

2. Most of the mammals, eat fish coming from the sea water. These fish are nutritious and provide lots of health benefits to the animals who are fish eater. not only we get fish from the oceans, we also get nori sheets, duck potatoes, water lilies, watercress and so on so forth.

3. Ocean water regulate our climate with the help of the ocean currents. The hot and cold ocean currents, rise or reduce the temperature and also help in creating clouds for rainfall in the nearby areas.

4. Let’s not forget that oceans are giving us business and money too. Countries have been using ocean routes for centuries for trade and commerce. This also rises the level of pollution and somewhat endanger the ocean water species.

5. Oceans are also in use for the naval power to the countries located on the ocean shores. Presently, a huge number of dolphins and orcas died in the Black Sea due to the war between Russia and Ukraine. The military and the naval equipment are injuring the fishes under water. Lots of submarines also contributed to the enhancement of pollution level and killed fishes.

Solution

So now, you must be thinking, what could be the solution to this issue. Fish farming is not the ultimate solution. Sturgeon and salmon are the mostly used sea fish all over the world. Sturgeons are farmed widely to produce caviar, which is again very painful for the fish. When the caviar are supposed to be flushed out of their body, the farmers press their belly a lot and these fishes feel the pain. Atlantic salmons are always in demand for their mouthwatering taste.

Shellfish are also very much popular in the Asian countries as they are used in cooking curries, soups, and various other recipes. You will also be surprised to know that in Japan, shark fin soup is very popular. So the fishermen catch the small sharks and cut their fins for the restaurants and drop them in the water. These sharks don’t live much longer as their fins are gone from their body which helps them to swim. The government of various countries located on the sea shore need to be strict with their marine laws and need to protect the oceans.

If we are controlling the use of the ocean water and catching the sea fish, then we can reduce the oceans to die. Many marine biologists are concerned that if this is not being controlled then the oceans all over the planet might die in the next 50 years. There will be a huge scarcity of sea water which cannot be replaced by anything else. That’s why we call earth as a “blue planet” so let’s protect our blue planet and help the planet to heal on its own.
