Cognitive deficits comes with meat consumption

Sounds bizarre to you? Well I too found it weird when I was doing my research back in 2019 before turning vegan. But I myself was amazed seeing the research findings have already been done till date on this area. Cognitive deficits like, Alzheimer’s, dementia and so on. As per the NIH, Alzheimer’s is the most progressive cognitive disorder happens quickly in humans with the regular consumption of meat. Dementia takes a bit of time, but after it’s arrival, its a bit tough to manage.

Various research findings

In 2021, the US Department of Agriculture came up with the new findings that Mad Cow Disease can fatally impact human brain and its Demyelination if the individual is regularly consuming ground beef. The beef slowly weakens the brain and spinal cord protecting tissues and once the tissues are weak enough, the disease directly hits the human central nervous system. As per CDC, four deaths were confirmed by Mad Cow Disease in 2021.

In Medical News Today, it was published that, Guillian-Barre Syndrome (GBS) can also occur due to heavy meat consumption. Its a rare autoimmune disease which can attack any part of the human nervous system (which is also known as peripheral nervous system) and can cause severe paralysis. It is also found that 1 in 100,000 people in the USA can get this disease. Muscle weakening, breathing troubles, tingling in your limbs are some of the symptoms the individuals can feel.

The Harvard Health Blog says that, there’s nothing called “a small stroke”. Every stroke could be fatal if not treated on time. Medication is not the way to deal with it. The traditional Mediterranean and Japanese diet are the safest of all and can provide enough nutrition. Their food contains beneficial bacteria for our system and also contains natural probiotics. Serotonin is the neurotransmitter which helps us to control sleep, hunger, mood swings and pain. If you are able to avoid meat from your diet, then your serotonin level will increase and will work in balance.

The CDC also listed few parasites which comes from meat and can impact humans. Parasites like, beef tapeworm, pork tapeworm, Giardia Duodenalis, and Toxoplasma Gondii are the most popular food borne illness. Some of these diseases are found in the under developed countries where there’s a huge scarcity of nutritious food.

Other diseases associated with meat consumption

1. E. Coli (ground beef)
2. Salmonella (poultry)
3. Scrapie (lamb and mutton)

Diet to enhance your neurological health

1. Mediterranean diet: It is highly beneficial to control the risks of Alzheimer’s, dementia and heart problems. Eating plant-based food will not only reduce the cholesterol levels in your body, but will increase the serotonin and will enhance your quality of life. You can add more greens in your salads, try to avoid meat or eggs in your salads. Include enough amount of seeds and nuts in your diet.

2. Japanese diet: It is the best diet to reduce your cardiovascular diseases quickly. The Japanese diet is full of lots of plant-based diet, minimal animal protein, less sugar. They also consume rice most of the times, so they reduce the consumption of gluten from their diet too. Consumption of seaweeds/sea plants and fermented food enhances the quality of life rapidly. That’s why Japanese are known for long life with less diseases across the world.

3. Soups: Asians are primarily known for their wide varieties of soups. You can easily incorporate various vegetables of your choice to make quick soups at home. Miso paste, coriander leaves, beans, carrots, potatoes and cauliflowers are ideal for making a sumptuous soup at home within a short span of time.

I myself was very surprised to know all of the above mentioned findings. Some of the researches I mentioned in this blog post are from the recent times, and very much evident in keeping yourself healthy. Physiological deficits are quite common, but still manageable to some extent. But the new urological deficits are hard to manage, some of these disorders are so progressive, that its hard to detect quickly. Neurological deficits not only impact the victim, but it also impacts the quality of life of the family and friends of the victim. They find it very hard to keep up with them, resulting in old age home, isolation and asylum. So take care of your health today, so you can have a healthy life tomorrow.
