Nowadays, PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome) has become quite a common disease among women. Women in their 20s, 30s or even 40s are highly affected by this disease. Pregnancy problems and weight gain are the major health issues they face. But have you ever thought that what you can repair all the things at home instead of booking regular doctor appointments?

A couple of my friends are also affected by this and they are dependent on medicines. I feel bad though for them. Martha McKittrick, a New York-based dietician says that life is never too busy to be healthy. We can make small and hassle-free changes in our regular diet and can bring a change in life. You get a lot of vitamin C, D and B6 from a plant-based diet. Following are the major areas of concern for PCOS affected women:
- Insulin resistance
- Regular low grade information
- Gut microbiome
- Elevated androgens
Dr Felice Gersh researching on to improve gut microbiome with the help of a balanced vegan diet. In 2017, Diabetes and Metabolic Syndrome: Clinical Research and Reviews found that a favourable dietary plan in women with PCOS can effectively lower the amount of saturated fatty acids. Besides this, consumption of fibre through whole grains, vegetables, legumes, lentils and fruits can increase the level of carbohydrates in the body. Low glycemic intake is highly recommended by dieticians.
Women must be thinking that how can they make their diet PCOS friendly. You can follow the following steps:
- Consume variety of foods
- Add fibre to your diet
- Check your protein portions
- Eat healthy carbs
I included these nutritional elements in my diet and found a lot of improvements. Though I don\’t have PCOS I want to help women suffering from PCOS and want to include a balanced diet. Instead of depending on medicines make small changes in your diet and see the change yourself.
