Mark Twain once said that \”A little starvation can really do more for the average sick man than can the best medicines and the best doctors.\”
As I mentioned previously that, in my upcoming blog posts I will be discussing different types of intermittent fasting. So today I\’ll pick up 5/2 intermittent fasting method. It\’s one of the most popular fasting methods nowadays, initially popularized by British journalist Michael Mosley. It is also known as the \”Fast diet\”.
You must be thinking that why it is named as 5/2. 5 days of the week an individual will be eating normal diets and the remaining 2 days of the week the individual will be restricting his/her diet. For those 2 days of the week, the practitioner can consume 500-600 calories a day. This diet is also very easy to follow because you can eat normal food items in the 5 days of the week and you can eat light food for the remaining 2 days. Those 2 days, you can consume salads, soups, nuts and fruits mainly, which can be easy for you to digest and restrict your calorie consumption.
Choosing 2 days of the week is up to you, you can pick 2 days at the beginning of the week, middle of the week on the ending of the week. In fact, you can also pick 1 day in the beginning and 1 day at the end of the week based on your preferences. This method is very effective for weight loss. Though you will be losing weight quite slowly but significantly. It can also reduce insulin levels in your body during the 2 days when you are restricting your calorie consumption.
Recently, Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Centre at the University Hospital of South Manchester, UK conducted research on 100 overweight women and they all were on Mediterranean type of diet for 5 days a week. Researchers found a significant difference in their weight. Optimized insulin resistance stopped the cells to respond for weight gain. In the short term, intermittent fasting is a healthy and scientific way of losing weight. You are consuming the necessary nutrient for your body and also restricting the weight gaining cells to work efficiently.
