Yesterday, I was chatting with a friend about cruelty in the dairy industry for milk extraction. Many of us might be aware of some of the cruelty happening by injecting oxytocin to get them pregnant. But there are so many things, I myself came across while doing research for this post.

As per the reports by Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United States (FAO), the dairy price index of 2020 is lower than 2019 due to COVID19. In 2020, Asia produced the highest quantity of milk of above 360 million tonnes, whereas Central America and Caribbean Islands produced the least of about 30 million tonnes of milk. In Europe, milk output rose to 236 million tonnes, about 1.6% compared to 2019. The production mainly increased due to European Union, the Russian Federation d Belarus.

In 2021, as per Yahoo Finance, India is the highest producer of milk in 2021 as of now. USA, Pakistan, China and Brazil are the countries from second to fifth in terms of milk output in 2021.
Some of the dangerous and furious facts about dairy industry are as follows:
1. Cows must give birth to calves to produce milk constantly.
2. Calves are stolen from their mothers after their birth.
3. Cows are impregnated over and over to produce milk in huge quantity.
4. Male calves are killed for veal, or sometimes sent to slaughter houses for skin and meat.
5. Female calves are kept in the dairy to continue the painful cycle of birthing calves and give milk.
6. Cows’ horns are either chopped off or burned without anesthetiser.
7. Cows’ hairs are burned off alive without any protection to their skin and flesh.
8. Calves tails are chopped off without any pain killers which is completely unnecessary.
9. The constant torture in their vagina and uterus develops pus and various infections which mixes with the milk after extraction.
10. Dairy farming is harmful for the environment and also causes loss of water.

I myself used to be a cow milk lover and all my life I had it. But when I turned into vegan in October 2020, my thought process changed. Now I feel I wish I knew about vegan lifestyle. I wish I could go back into the past and could change the damage I did to the environment by encouraging the dairy industry business. If I could inspire even 1 person with my thoughts and facts, then I think I’m little successful in making this planet a better place.
