The General Motors employees came up with this crazy diet in 985 with the help of US Department of Agriculture and FDA. They also tested this diet plan at the John Hopkins Research Centre.

This is one of the quickest diet plan people adopt sometimes. When someone wants to shed extra kilos within few days, they go ahead with this diet plan. It assures you to show difference in a week itself. this GM diet promises the following things:

1. Lose up to 5-6 kgs in a week.
2. Improves you digestive system as you are mostly on liquid diet.
3. Increases one’s ability to burn fat faster than the normal people.
4. Helps in detoxifying your body.

What do you eat if you follow GM diet?

General Motors diet is one of the most sought after and hectic to follow diet. Back in 1985, it became very popular, and hard to sustain as well. So here is a rough idea about what do people eat in GM diet:

Day One:

— Eat only fruits except banana

Day Two:

— Only raw or boiled vegetables are allowed to eat, potatoes are only allowed in breakfast

Day Three:

— Eat only fruits and vegetables. No bananas and potatoes in the diet

Day Four:

— You can eat 6-8 bananas and skimmed milk only

Day Five:

— Allowed to eat only two 10-ounce of beef, pork or fish. Vegetarians can replace it with cottage cheese or brown rice.
— You can also increase the consumption of water by two more glasses compared to other days to kick out the uric acid.

Day Six:

— 10-ounce of meat and fish are allowed twice a day.
— Unlimited amount of vegetables are allowed to eat without any potato.
— You can replace meat for few days with unlimited amount of vegetables cottage cheese and with brown rice.
— Increase water consumption

Day Seven:

— Consume only brown rice, vegetables, fruits and fruit juice.

So by now you must have understood that why this General Motors diet is so difficult to sustain. You need to follow the chart quite strictly and also need to maintain the portions of food items you are putting on your plate. Honestly, people who are working regularly cannot maintain this much of food fuss everyday. After a certain limit, you will be all irritated and groggy as you are not getting enough of nutrition. You might feel the craving to eat something out of your meal plan too.

Risks of having GM diet

As of now, you all have got an idea what all food items are allowed to eat while following GM diet. Now we will discuss the risks of this diet plan.

1. Though this diet was tested but there’s no scientific data which approves this diet plan for humans.

2. It simply restricts your nutrition intake and can make you feel exhausted and fatigued throughout the day.

3. As mentioned before, it’s hard to sustain.

4. As you eat less and limited, it reduces your metabolism rate and it might take considerable amount of time to pick up to your natural metabolism. So don’t risk your basic metabolism rate (BMR).

5. It creates foggy brain, as you are not getting sufficient amount of nutrition.

6. Your muscles won’t receive enough of nutrition, that can lead to fatigued body.

7. You won’t feel like exercising, as you are already exhausted with less consumption of food.

8. People with migraine or sinusitis must avoid this diet plan, as they might get bad headache. Mood swings can also hamper your daily routine.

9. You will get dehydrated very badly.

10. It can also cause hair loss as you are not putting enough of nutrition in your body.

So now the million dollar question is “what do we need to eat in a day”. To lose weight/fat many people do many things. Some start with strict diet, some hit the gym, some start doing yoga/surya namaskar, some fast and punish themselves by not eating at the right time. Now it’s up to you how do you want to help yourself. Fasting is not a bad option at all, it helps to cleanse your detoxified body and your palate.

You need at least two good meals a day, where you are consuming proper nutrition in proper quantity. So it’s better to eat a bit of carbohydrates, minimal protein, vitamins and enough minerals. Many people avoid eating vegetables grown under the soil. But these vegetables are rich in minerals, potassium and magnesium which strengthens your immunity very quickly. I avoid gluten as much as I can from my daily diet, that helps me to reduce my bloating and stay energetic throughout the day. Choose your daily diet wisely and don’t be too harsh on yourself for losing weight/fat.
