The circus is a wonderful delight which shows up the deep metaphor of life. It has the power of symbolising both liberty and bondage. The circus staff and the animals are the biggest sign of bondage and slavery. The first circus was organised and opened for humans in 1768 in London, where Philip Astley showed some phenomenal horse tricks. Since he was a cavalry officer it was easy for him to train animals and show tricks to people.

Later on, as the time passed by many new activities and specialists were added into the circus. Ventriloquists, jugglers, jokers, magic, unicyclists and object manipulation became star attraction of the circus. A circus historian named, George Speaight opined that Romans deserve some credit for the ancient circus. Some circus related activities were performed for the entertainment of people in Hippodrome of Constantinople which is not in modern Istanbul, Turkey. But as the time advanced, animals were brutally used in the circuses for the entertainment of people and are kept in cages. Lions, elephants, horses, birds, and many other animals are being used in the circus. Some of these animals’ teeth were being removed so that they cannot harm any of the circus staff.
Roncalli in Germany
Circus Roncalli in Germany started their journey in 1976 and was founded by Andre Heller and Bernhard Paul. They started showing their circus with animals and various games. But now the organisers of this circus pioneered a method to use holographic images of the animals to show all the games and tricks in their circus. This futuristic hologram approach is very much cruelty-free and real animals are not being used. They have mostly released their caged animals and using this method of entertain people.

The 360° 3D holographic images and about 105 wide and 16 deep arena where the images keep running like videos. They have also started including fish in the holographic images to show some underwater tricks. Many of the visitors welcomed this thought and appreciated Roncalli’s initiative to bring animal cruelty-free circus for sheer entertainment.
Animal cruelty in circus
The animals in the circus are mainly kept in the cages when they are not performing on the stage. Earlier, the animals were transported from one place to another either by train or by trucks in a very filthy atmosphere. The animals like horses, lions, tigers, elephants are often whipped and forced to go through painful training sessions. Animals also don’t get proper medical attention and are being forced to perform with their serious injuries. Some of the animals are also being passed through electric shocks to keep them in the game.
Countries like The Netherlands, Mexico and Ireland have banned usage of animals in the circus. I remember, in the film “Water for Elephants” it was clearly shown that how the circus owner mistreat their animals. They are kept aloof of nutritious food and constant medical attention. Some circus organisers break teeth of the animals so they cannot attack the trainers or the circus staff.

3. Digital Domain (USA)
4. Holo-Light (Germany)
5. Holotronica (USA)
6. Microsoft (USA)
7. Musion 3D (UK)
8. Optoma (Taiwan)

Circus is fun when you take it as a part of entertainment. But under any circumstances, we humans don’t have the permission or right to use animals in the circus for our entertainment. They are not born in this planet to entertain us. The way we cannot live into their ecosystem, exactly the same way they also cannot live in our ecosystem. But we ignore their comfort and torture them.
