I myself love traveling and thankfully since my childhood, I have traveled to many parts of India. My dad always says that traveling makes you smarter and big time problem solver. When I was a kid didn’t understand why he says so. But now I understand the real meaning of it. Nowadays, due to some family issues I can’t travel so often. But I would be planning to travel pretty soon. But while traveling, the biggest issue we all face is controlling the carbon emission.
The word “sustainable” hits people differently, so do with me. I truly believe in living a simple and sustainable life altogether. So here are some of my tips for being a green traveler or a climate conscious traveler.

1. Say a big NO to plastics while traveling. don’t carry or wrap your travel stuffs in plastics. Rather you can buy biodegradable wraps and papers for packing your goods. That will lessen the carbon emissions too.
2. If you are traveling local, then try to see the city on foot or by cycling to all the possible corners. This will help you to do exercises, keep the carbon emissions in control and will give you ample opportunity to enjoy the city vibes on your own.
3. Now when I say pack light goods while traveling, you might think I’m being stupid. But its a proven fact that, light luggage needs light transportation and that helps to reduce carbon emission. If you are carry heavy luggage then you need a heavy vehicle while traveling and that increases the carbon emission.
4. Try to save electricity as much as you can. When you don’t need fans or ACs, then you can simply put them off. Nowadays, most of the hotels provide key cards, that help them to save unnecessary waste of electricity.
5. If you are visiting some locations, where you are going to involve yourself in scuba diving, then make sure you are not going too close to the marine animals. You can enjoy seeing them from a distance.

6. If you are visiting beaches or places where you will be exploring by waterways, then try to avoid speed boats or motor boats, which needs fuel to function. Rather you can do kayaking or self boating with oars. That’s a good exercise and provides you enough time to devour the beauty of the place.
7. Another point you need to keep in your mind while traveling is about the vehicle. If you can travel on a bus with other fellow tourists, then its a great thing to do. You will get new company, and can contribute less to the air pollution. If you are traveling by a car, you are contributing more to the air pollution of that particular place.
8. Try less to use phone and other electronic devices while traveling. The less you use electronic devices, the less you are charging them. It stops the electricity wastage. Everyone loves to capture their beautiful travel moments by clicking photos and recording videos. But you can use the phone camera on aeroplane mode too.
9. Who doesn’t want to save money and time at the same time while traveling? If you don’t have any other option rather than flying, then consider direct flights, rather than layovers. It will save your money, time and less pollution too.
10. Ditch unnecessary extra shopping. Women are generally blamed to be a big time shopaholic, and they tend to buy lot of souvenirs while traveling. Try to buy only the bare minimum stuffs. Extra shopping will waste your money, luggage will be heavier, thus, leads to high carbon emission.

Conclusion:
It altogether might sound very difficult to you to implement. But a bit of thinking and carrying multi-purpose goods will always keep you at ease. Less goods will keep your mental bandwidth slightly free and you will worry less. Traveling with a thought of being a green and sustainable traveler is a great concept if you are ready to implement. None of the above mentioned points are difficult to follow. Happy traveling and happy green/sustainable traveling.
