Food waste is a huge concern for years. Millions of people all over the world don’t get food and they sleep on the roads with empty stomach. People living in the slums also don’t get square meal a day. But here are the list of top 10 food wasting countries in the world. World Population Review conducted a survey in 2023 and here is the list mentioned below:

- China is topping the list here with food waste of 91 million tons of food. As China was the most populated country in the world (few months ago, not now) food waste of this amount is quite common out there.
- India is at the 2nd position with food waste of 68 million tons. Poverty has always been a benchmark in India since its independence, but the food waste considerably increased as the population grew up.
- United States of America is ranking 3rd with food waste of 19 million tons. As per the population of the USA, this food waste quantity is quite less. But the gap between India and the USA is huge in terms of the quantity of food wastage.
- Japan wasted food of 8 million tons in 2022-2023 and that’s why they are standing at the 4th position. Japan is a country where food, health and overall lifestyle is influenced from the environment around them, but still the food waste is a huge matter of concern for the government.
- Germany wasted 6 million tons of food in the present year. WHO declared that Germany’s population is 83 millions in the 2023. Comparatively the food waste quantity is still not so justified, and off course not to ignore the history of world wars and how the nation was impacted by the wars.

6. France is securing the 6th position with the food waste of 5 million tons. The country is known for sumptuous confectionary baked items and cheese all over the world, but the ruling political party is still not able to cope with the food waste.
7. United Kingdom wasted 5 million tons of food and holding almost the similar position with France. UK is known for its royal family and the social work they have been serving for decades by the members of the British royal family. But still they couldn’t cope with the food waste.
8. Russia is at the 8th position in terms of wasting food. They wasted 4 millions tons of food in 2022-2023. Presently, they are in a state of war against Ukraine, so I personally wonder the data. During war, the requirement and wastage of food differs from the normal days.
9. Spain is at the 9th position and wasted 3 million tons of food. This country is famous for amazing Mediterranean food and they have a huge influence of Greek and Spanish food. But still the taste of food couldn’t beat the waste of food.
10. Last but off course not the least, Australia ranked 10th in food waste by 2 million tons. The native Australians have a great sense of traditional and tribal food of their own. This country also have a big number of students and employees from different parts of the world, hence the food waste is increasing.

These numbers are truly very shocking. I hate wasting food. My mom always used to say that chopping the vegetables and cooking them to bring to the table takes a long time, but it gets finished pretty quickly. But earning enough money to buy the food items is the toughest job in this world. It takes a lot to bring the food to the table, but unfortunately the present generation is very casual in wasting food. So it’s my request to all of my readers to not to waste food. Either cook less as per the requirement, or try to finish the food next day as leftover. There’s no harm in eating the leftovers by tossing and heating them up all over again. Or you can feed the leftovers to the stray animals. Food waste is rapidly increasing and the sustainability of the population and the planet is reducing like hell. Its an alarming situation, so wake up guys and don’t waste food!
