Its such a popular phrase on YouTube and on social media these days. I see lot of celebrities and influencers keep sharing about their diet plans and what do they eat to keep themselves in good shape. I’m a common person living with type 2 diabetes, trying to make my life easy on myself.

When you mention that you are diabetic, people start suggesting you health tips and tricks like doctors. They will suggest you many things, off which they don’t follow half of the things but they take the credit of explaining it to you. I somehow appreciate their efforts but as I keep researching on diabetes and glucose functions in human bodies, I found that most of the suggestions we get from people are mostly wrong. For the past few years, many biohackers and biochemists conducted numerous researches where they proved things pretty differently.
So I too altered my diet based on the recent research I did after reading and listening to the specialists. Here are my favourite 5 food items from my “what I eat in a day”.
Lentils

People who think, vegans live with protein deficiency can always swear by lentils. It’s a pure plant-based protein you can easily include in your diet. It keeps your diabetes in control and eventually improves your heart health too. Lentils are easy and quick to cook, and not to forget than how light it is for your digestive system. Protein content in 100gms of lentils is almost 10 gms
Avocado

It is considered as a super food because it’s high in fibre, magnesium, potassium, vitamin C, E, K and B6. It also provides enough of omega fatty 3 acid to the plant-based eaters. It’s considered very nutritious for women, as it has curing agents for osteoporosis which is very common in women. You can improve vision problems and digestion very easily. It’s highly recommended to pregnant women as it provides enough nutrition to the foetus. A medium sized avocado can provide 3 gm of calories, 240 gm of calories and less than 1 gm of sugar.
Red cabbage

As it’s high in antioxidants and detoxifies our body, it’s a great food item to combat cancer in the coming days. It’s highly beneficial for heart disease and osteoporosis. Heart attacks are very difficult to detect in women compared to men because of the complex internal body mechanism. 1 cup of raw and chopped red cabbage has 1.27 gm protein, 0.1 gm fat and 27.6gm calories.
Spinach

It is considered as a superfood among all the green leafy vegetables. It’s easily available almost round the year, tasty and needs minimal time to cook. It hydrates our body instantly and also detoxifies. As it is rich in iron, it’s highly beneficial to the anaemic people. Women should consumer spinach almost daily during their menstruation, as it rich in iron. Spinach is high in water content, almost 91%, with about 3 gms of protein in 100 gms of spinach. It’s also low calorie food as it has only 23 gms of calories.
Garlic

Many people might find it very surprising that I eat 1-2 pieces of raw garlic everyday in the morning. Garlic has its own pungent smell and taste, which many of us cannot take in, but believe me I have noticed the benefits on my own. It quickly helps you to control high blood pressure, cholesterol and sugar levels. It also has antibiotics properties that’s why it helps you to boost your immunity naturally. As it’s low calories, low fat and sugar content food item, one can easily consume this without disturbing other health parameters. It has 16 mg of calcium, 36 mg potassium, 2 mg vitamin C and so on.
The 5 must haves I mentioned from my “what I eat in a day” list is very common and are easily available in the market. No matter which country you are in, I am sure you can easily find these 5 food items from the nearby supermarkets or vegetable shops and can include in your diet.
