How to go trash-free in 2024?

Throughout the day, we all keep doing some or the other work at home, which get us to gather trash. Most of our trash aren’t recyclable. But lately, countries like, Germany, Austria, South Korea and Switzerland went trash-free. They introduced some strict zero-wastage management rules, and the population followed it by heart. On the other hand, nations like, Brazil, Canada, USA, Singapore and the UK are doing their best to tackle plastics.

Ways to go trash-free:

  • Avoid using single-usage plastics. It would be better if you can avoid using plastics in any form. But if you are using then go for plastics which can be used multiple times.
  • At supermarkets, look for either paper bags to weigh your grains, pulses, vegetables and fruits. If paper bags aren’t available, then look for non-plastic bags. Those will come with a tag of “I’m not plastic”.
  • Avoid using plastic bottles too. Better to use, stainless steel or glass bottles.
  • Instead of using tea bags, you can use simple tea leaves. You can throw the same tea leaves into the soil to decompose after making tea. It will help you to use as a fertiliser in your garden.
  • You can also toss the vegetables and fruits wastage into soil for some fresh home-grown and chemical-free fertiliser. But make sure you are using organic vegetables and fruits.

Benefits of zero-waste management:

No one is asking you to go to extreme levels to get into zero-waste management. “Charity begins at home”. As the proverb says, you must start the good deeds at home and then preach the same among the crowd for greater good. But start it at home to train your children to follow it everywhere they go. The simple benefits of going zero-waste are as follows:

  • It helps towards the climate change issues we are all facing across the globe. Our planet has already gone into two ice ages, and another one is on its way. It may happen probably after 100 years, but we can postpone it if we are implementing the right measures to delay the ice age.
  • Zero-waste also keep our animals safe. As we through the plastics anywhere and everywhere, it goes into the food of animals. We found cows, turtles, fish and so many other species with plastics inside their stomach, which they couldn’t digest.
  • By throwing the waste in the soil or water, we are endangering the aquatic ecosystem too. It increases the water pollution and kills the aquatic animals.
  • Zero-waste will also save your money in the long run. Many of us don’t realise it in a go, but it’s truly impactful.
  • It has the power to make you minimalist and conscious shopper. Buy the stuffs which are highly required. You don’t need all the things available at the store for yourself.
  • Try to buy and use vegan and cruelty-free products. This will not only encourage the vegan and cruelty-free business but also the concept of zero-waste.

Now, you all may think that how these small steps will help the planet to heal. But believe me when I say that a small step is as powerful as a big rule to follow. You can easily bring the thunder in. When you start following these small steps, others start observing you. Hence, they also realise and start following you. Everyone is not as intelligent as you and won’t put enough efforts to heal the planet, but you can kick start it soon. Don’t wait for others to encourage you, rather be the source of encouragement for others.
