Many scientists considered pigs as the fifth most intelligent animals in the world. They can remember signs, humans and can have a high sensory intellect. But its sad to see how humans are treating pigs to put them on their platter to tantalise their taste buds.

China is the highest pork producing country in the world. They literally produce 50% of the world’s pork with 57.94 million metric tonnes of meat. EU is the second highest pork producer produces 18% with 20.8 million metric tonnes. USA comes third producing 11% pork with 12.39 million metric tonnes. Brazil is on the fourth position produces 4% with 4.45 million metric tonnes.
Artificial insemination:

Just like humans, artificial insemination process is available for animals too. Once the pigs turn seven months old, they are old enough to get pregnant. Gestation period for the pigs is three months. So, the meat producers don’t need to wait longer. While the pigs are pregnant, they are being kept in separate cages where they don’t get to move and sleep peacefully. A little bigger space is provided to them inside the cages. In many pig farms, a rod is inserted to reach her cervix which is damn painful for them.
Painful mutilations:
Pigs and piglets are being mutilated with immense torture without any sedatives or with no supervision of veterinary doctor. The useless portions of their body are being dumped in the farm which increases the carbon footprints and poison in the air and soil. If some of the piglets are not growing naturally or have some illness, they are being mounted against the walls to cut off their head. This process is called “thumping”.

Cramped farming:
Pigs and piglets are generally kept together in a closed areas with not enough space of movement. Most of the times, piglets are taken away from their mothers after three weeks of their birth and kept in another facility until they are grown enough for the market. These facilities are guarded by steel or plastic frames and kept in dark area. They don’t get enough sunlight and don’t get to roll in the mud. Simply putting, the piglets don’t get to do the fun activities to consider their life worthy and are constantly scared of being butchered.

Painful transportation and unnatural growth:
As the piglets are being kept in cramped up spaces with no sun exposure and no touch with the soil, they grow unnaturally. Unfortunate, such piglets are useless for the farmers, so they mutilate them by thumping them brutally. Those who grow properly are being transported in a vehicle with pushing more pigs inside tightly. They keep oinking in pain, but no one pays attention.

My intention is not to paint a bloody or painful picture for you all. I’m openly talking on behalf of these pigs and piglets, so we can understand the dark side of the pork industry. I never tasted pork, but I’m sure that’s tasty and meaty. But they are not to be presented on our platter as a culinary creation. They way we respect humans as we are humans, we need to respect the lives of pigs and piglets. Let’s offer them some love and care, so they can oink happily on us. Oink, oink, oink!!!
